In 2016, the company founders wanted to create a product at the heart of Dundee's heritage. The obvious choice for the main ingredient was the city's own Dundee Orange Marmalade, still made by local firm Mackays, in copper pans, using the traditional methods. With some help from the experts, the signature product was born: the Dundee Gin Marmalade Liqueur. An online media launch of the home page went viral, with more than 150,000 views. This prompted sales of more than 200 bottles over 2 ½ hours by local retailers.
Last year, Lewis Murphy joined the company from a background in hospitality management and swiftly took on a controlling role here with us. In August 2019 he officially became Managing Director, and has moved the company forward, adding new stockists, working with his own approach to product innovation, and carrying on the charitable work of his predecessor. Earlier this year, The Dundee Gin Company organised a large fundraiser with several gin manufacturers for the SSAFA, the Tri-Service Military charity, with considerable input from Lewis. This year we have had the privilege of creating limited edition gin liqueurs in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund, and to support Dundee Pride parade and festival.
Now stocked by retailers near and far, we have added new products to our range, and are constantly adapting to bring our clients the very best in locally sourced and produced goods. Customers from Australia, Germany and the USA have placed a multitude of orders for all the bottles in our family of premium gins and liqueurs.
Lewis also sends out a heartfelt thank you to the people of Dundee for their support. This is Dundee’s story, and without it, The Dundee Gin Company would not exist.
